Chris Smalling relished his comeback for Roma, even if it was only a 0-0 draw with CSKA Sofia. ‘I’ve been waiting all summer to get back out there.’
This was the English centre-back’s first appearance of the season, as between the Manchester United transfer negotiations and injury, he hadn’t played since the end of July.
“I’ve been waiting all summer to get back out there,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s a pleasure to be back with the team, although we are disappointed not to have the full three points.”
It was a 0-0 draw with CSKA Sofia in the Europa League, but CFR Cluj also drew 1-1 with Young Boys, so the Giallorossi are joint top on four points.
“We didn’t play with the right intensity in the first half, we should’ve moved the ball around quicker, something that we did do better after the break.
“I feel good and I tried to help the team. I trained well in the last couple of days and I’m getting back into shape. I’m not at my best yet, but I’m sure I’ll get there very soon.”
