Pirlo to the Coppa Final in his first season

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo has reached the Coppa Italia Final in his first season, the ninth coach to achieve the feat since 2000.

The goalless draw with Inter at the Allianz Stadium was enough to see the Old Lady through to the Final, as Pirlo’s men secured a 2-1 win in Milan last week.

Juventus continues to push for silverware under the former midfielder’s reign and have reached the first target of the season, a Final in the Italian Cup.

Pirlo took over last summer, when he replaced Maurizio Sarri at the helm, and has now reached the Cup Final in his first season with the Bianconeri.

There are eight other coaches who have brought teams to the Coppa Italia Final in their first season at the club, let’s take a look at them.

Roberto Mancinireturned to coach Fiorentina in February 2001. However, the Viola were already through to the Final, but he helped them win 2-1 over Parma.

Pietro Carmignanitook over at Parma in December 2001 and at the end of the campaign he picked up the Coppa Italia with a win over Marcello Lippi’s Juventus.

Bruno Conti replaced Luigi Delneri at Roma in 2005 and helped the Giallorossi to the Coppa Italia Final, losing the showdown 3-0 to Inter.

Vladimir Petkovichelped Lazio secure a Coppa Italia triumph against Roma in his first season as a coach in 2013.

Aurelio Andreazzoli was at the other end of that result, as he took over Roma in February 2013 and helped the to the historic Final, lost against the bitter rivals.

Rafael Beniteztook Napoli to the top in his first season with the Partenopei, finishing with a 3-1 win over Fiorentina.

Cristian Brocchi took over when Milan only had a few games left of the campaign and led the side in the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus. It ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Simone Inzaghi was originally appointed the interim coach in April 2016, but later confirmed the new coach of Lazio and led the team to the Final in 2016-17.
