Roma ‘never met Allegri’

Tiago Pinto insists he never met Massimiliano Allegri and reveals why the swap deal between Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez collapsed.

The Portuguese director revealed Edin Dzeko is no longer the Giallorossi captain.

Tiago Pinto insisted he never met Massimiliano Allegri as Paulo Fonseca is ‘doing a great job’ at the Olimpico.

The former Juventus coach was spotted outside Tiago Pinto’s hotel in Milan in January.

“I deny rumours about meetings [with other coaches], it’s all lies. We are happy with Fonseca and his work and my relationship with him is excellent. He is not distracted by these rumours and he is only focused on the next game,” Tiago Pinto claimed.

Why did the Dzeko-Sanchez swap deal collapse?

“Everything Marotta said is true. I met Ausilio and we spoke about a few things, but we were never in advanced talks.

“I believe a club’s size depends on the size of its fans. We are a great club also because of our fans who I admire. All the decisions that we will take are for the club’s good.”

Are Roma going to sell some of their best players if they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season?

“I can’t make predictions right now, we are trying to focus on one training and one game at time. Our priority is the next match.”

Is Lorenzo Pellegrini going to sign a contract extension?

“I think he represents the value of our project. He is a hard worker and he is strongly attached to the club. We are going to meet his agent soon.

“We signed El Shaarawy and Reynolds in January,” the Roma director continued.

“They are two important players who will strengthen the team. We tried to find solutions for players who haven’t had enough game time, but for some reason we couldn’t finalise those deals. I am not satisfied with myself for this.”
