Medic: ‘Zaniolo very worried’ by injury

Italy medic Professor Andrea Ferretti confirms Nicolò Zaniolo is ‘very worried, as are we’ after he suffered a new potential ACL injury.

The Roma midfielder went off just before half-time in Italy’s 1-0 Nations League victory over Holland in Amsterdam.

There were immediately concerns, as there didn’t seem to be much in the challenge, and he had only just returned in July from an anterior cruciate ligament tear in January.

That was to his right knee, whereas the injury this time seems to be the left knee.

“It is a significant sprain of the knee,” Ferretti told RAI Sport.

“It’s difficult to compare the stability with the other knee, because that has already undergone an operation. It’s a significant sprain.

“He is coming back from a long rehabilitation process for the other knee, so obviously he is very worried, as are we.”

There was an update during the press conference later on from coach Roberto Mancini.

“He was very worried the moment it happened, but felt better afterwards, as it wasn’t that painful. I hope it’s not as serious as last time, he seemed a little calmer.”
