Kumbulla: ‘Roma a step up in my career’

Marash Kumbulla assures he ‘did not hesitate’ when Roma made an approach to Hellas Verona. ‘It’s a step up in my career.’

The centre-back had also been linked with other clubs, including Napoli and Lazio, but opted for the Giallorossi.

“When I heard of their interest, it was exciting and I did not hesitate, because of the club, the city and fans. It was an easy decision to make,” said the Albania international in his press conference.

“It was tough to leave Verona after so many years, but this is a step up in my career. There are a lot of tactical differences between the coaches, as for example Ivan Juric man-marks, whereas with Paulo Fonseca we defend as a group.

“I know that I need to improve in my passing out from the back and on my weaker foot, but one can always improve in every area. We have a young defence, but already proved we work well together and can only get stronger.”

Kumbulla made his debut during the 2-2 draw with Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I was very happy and it was exciting, but I also had regret at not getting all three points, because I feel we deserved to win.”
