Spain U21 midfielder Gonzalo Villar said he enjoys the ‘ambitious project’ at Roma but admitted he’s flattered by the interest from Atletico Madrid.
The 23-year-old, currently on international duty with Spain Under-21, spoke about his time at Roma when El Transistor broadcasted from the retreat.
“In Rome they showed me a very ambitious project and they trusted me as a player,” Villar said, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
“In Spain I was not presented with a project at the level of Roma, so I chose to go to Italy. I didn’t have the opportunity to make my debut in La Liga and I have started to make myself known in Italy.
“I understand that in Spain there are people who don’t even know who I am.”
But Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid know and the reports in Spain has linked the young midfielder back to Spain and a move to the capital for the former Elche player.
“It’s always a pleasure to know about the interest of such a team,” he said. “Everything is going incredibly well in Rome, both on a personal and footballing level.”
