Roma are ready to drop talks with Manchester United for Chris Smalling and are close to a deal for Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla.
According to Sky Sport Italia, a deal was struck quickly with Verona, a loan with obligation to buy worth a total of €30m.
Manchester United rejected the latest offer for Smalling and Roma lost patience, moving on to a different objective.
Inter had locked down Kumbulla, but decided to release him from that promise.
Kumbulla is only 20 years old and already a senior Albania international, born in Italy and having come up through the Verona youth academy.
In his debut Serie A season, he made 25 appearances and scored one goal.
Lazio were also interested in Kumbulla, who had been approached by Napoli in January.
