Report: Roma continue to push for Smalling

Roma continue to chase Chris Smalling but Manchester United reportedly ask for €19.5m to close a deal with the Giallorossi.

Paulo Fonseca wants Smalling to return after his impressive stint on loan last term, but The Guardian reveals Roma’s first offer was rejected.

The newspaper claims the Red Devils want £18m (€19.5m) for the centre-back and United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the club has not received ‘sufficient bids’ for the former England international.

“It’s not down to me, is it? I’m not the one negotiating between the clubs,” Solskjaer said, according to The Guardian. “But we haven’t had sufficient bids there and that’s it.”

Smalling, who was not in the squad for United’s EFL Cup tie with Luton last night, played 37 competitive games last term and scored three times for La Lupa.
