Fonseca: ‘Fiorentina for top seven’

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca believes Fiorentina ‘can finish in the top seven this season’ ahead of their showdown on Sunday evening.

It kicks off on Sunday at 17.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.

“I decide on the defenders game by game, we’ll see tomorrow if Chris Smalling can start or not,” said Fonseca in his press conference.

“Roma want to do better than last season, but we have to take it one match at a time. We all need to improve, as a team is never a completed project. If we compare ourselves to how we were playing at this stage last season, I see improvements, more confidence, the lads know what I want from them.

“Fiorentina are a great team, they have signed many quality players with Serie A experience under their belts. It’s a team with a lot of tactical solutions, they play well and it’s going to be a tough match for us. I think the Viola can finish in the top seven this season.

“I like to think positive and we have to be quicker in attack, when playing out from the back. We’ve improved on this lately and I want us to do even better.”
